Understanding Auto Glass Insurance

Your coverage. Your claim. Your choice of glass shop.
Filing an auto glass claim can bring up questions—especially when you call your insurance company and reach a different company’s representative. Hampton Auto Glass can help you understand the process, connect with the right claims department, and arrange your service.
Why might another company answer my insurance call?
Some insurance companies use an outside claims administrator, also called a third-party administrator, to help handle auto glass claims. This company may collect your damage information, review coverage information, issue a claim reference, and help coordinate service.
Safelite Solutions is one example of a company that manages glass claims for insurers. Depending on your insurance company, you may speak with Safelite Solutions, another administrator, or your insurer directly. Being connected with a claims administrator is part of the claim process; it does not mean you have already chosen a repair shop.
Can I choose Hampton Auto Glass?
Yes. Washington law gives you the right to choose your auto glass repair or replacement shop. An insurance representative may recommend a provider, but you can tell them you would like Hampton Auto Glass to perform the work.
During the call, simply say:
“I would like to use Hampton Auto Glass. Please record them as my chosen shop.”
Your choice of shop does not change your policy’s coverage, deductible, or payment limits. We can help clarify the claim details and discuss any potential out-of-pocket costs before work begins.
What does my insurance cover?
Glass damage from a rock, falling debris, or similar event is commonly handled under comprehensive coverage, subject to your policy. Liability-only insurance generally does not cover damage to your own vehicle. Your insurer will confirm which coverage applies to your loss.
A deductible is the portion of a covered claim you pay. Some policies waive the deductible for eligible windshield repairs, while replacement may have a deductible. Benefits vary by insurer and policy, so confirm your coverage before scheduling.
How does my deductible work?
-
If your deductible is $0: You owe nothing for the covered service.
-
If your deductible is $100: You pay the glass shop $100, and your insurance
pays the remaining covered balance.
These examples assume the approved service costs more than your deductible.
We’ll help confirm your deductible and explain any costs before work begins.

How does the claim process work?
1. Contact Hampton Auto Glass.
Tell us about the damage and your vehicle. We can help you connect with your insurer or claims administrator, including through a three-way call.
2. Report the damage.
Have your insurance information, vehicle details, date of damage, and a brief description of what happened ready. The insurer may need you to answer questions and authorize the claim.
3. Confirm coverage and choose your shop.
The insurer or administrator reviews your policy and explains any deductible. Let the representative know you have selected Hampton Auto Glass.
4. Confirm the work and schedule service.
We assess whether repair or replacement is appropriate, identify the correct glass, and tell you before your appointment whether windshield calibration is needed. We also help coordinate any required insurance approval.
5. Complete the service and billing.
For an approved covered claim, we coordinate billing with your insurer or administrator. You are responsible for your applicable deductible and any other charges discussed and agreed to before the work.
Already started a claim?
If you already have a claim number or were referred to another shop, contact us before service begins. We can help you request Hampton Auto Glass as your chosen provider and coordinate the next steps.
What if I want to pay myself?
You can request a self-pay estimate before deciding whether to use insurance. Comparing the estimate with your deductible can help you make that decision.
For questions about how a claim could affect your premium or renewal, speak with your insurance company or agent.
